Is Hard Kombucha Healthy?
We get asked a lot, “Is hard kombucha healthy?”
The short answer is:
Kombucha has a lot of benefits, and alcohol is, well, still alcohol. But, as far as alcoholic beverages go, you could certainly do much, much worse. Like this one 🥴.
The long answer is:
Most kombucha cultures contain bacteria that create functional postbiotics such as gluconic and acetic acids. These are the primary components that make up the kombucha that is used in Zesty’s hard kombucha line.
The first postbiotic, Acetic Acid, is a known anti-inflammatory and slows the breakdown of carbs. This has the potential to provide benefits in slightly reducing blood sugar spikes in diabetics.
The second postbiotic, Gluconic Acid, aids the liver in removing toxins (like alcohol) from your body. This could help explain why some people report a milder hangover after consuming hard kombucha.
When it comes down to it, your best bet is to practice conscious consumption and at the very least, avoid hard kombuchas (and alcohol products in general) that don’t list their ingredients or nutrition facts.
At Zesty, we believe that you deserve to know what’s in your beverage so you can make the best decision at the bar or in the beer aisle.
