Frequently Asked Questions

What are postbiotics and how are they different from probiotics?

  • Postbiotics are lesser-known by the public than probiotics.

  • Postbiotics are metabolites created through probiotic fermentation. These include the organic acids and enzymes found in kombucha and other fermented foods that can help with digestion, reduce inflammation, and provide a variety of supporting roles in the body.

  • Postbiotics may help you more effectively achieve stability in your microbiome than taking only probiotic supplements.

  • Because these are not living organisms, postbiotics may also be a safer and more stable way to supplement your diet.

  • Consuming foods or beverages fortified with encapsulated, lab-grown probiotics doesn’t mean you actually derive any additional benefits besides, hopefully, enjoying a tasty product.

Is your kombucha a probiotic?

  • The definition of a probiotic is a live microorganism which when administered in adequate amounts confers a health benefit on the host.

  • Zesty Beverages makes kombucha that contains live bacteria and is lower in alcohol, calories, and sugar than most national brands.

  • We don’t suggest that our products (especially hard kombucha) “confer a health benefit.” Therefore, we don’t use the term “probiotic” in our messaging.

  • Our non-alcoholic and hard kombucha contain the postbiotic metabolites created by live bacteria and yeast but we make no claims that these will cure all that ails you.

Is your CEO Jack Black’s Twin?

  • He claims he is not, but we aren’t buying it. Nice try Griff.
